Hi,

I get the following exception when I try to create a repository. I checked the MSDTC settings all are fine as expected. I could able to connect to the DB from SQL Object explorer. Am trying to use forms authentication. Help me regarding.

Forms test failed - Invalid connection string. Please check MSDTC settings and check if Database User settings are valid, if you are using windows authentication. Check Skelta Logger Console for more details. - Check logger console for more details

Hi Mailyogi,

1. Please check the connection string that you are specifying for the datasource in the repository settings.

2. If the database is remote, then check if you have made the required msdtc configurations on the other server also.

3. If you have tried with windows authentication, try with sql authentication also.

4. Check if the user you are using in the connection string has got enough previleges like dbowner on the database server.

Let us know if you need any other details on this.

Hi Aravind,

1.The connection string is proper and its a working version.

2.The DB is a remote machine. I checked all the required MSDTC settings. It is proper. Is there any issue if that DB is Express Edition?

3. Am using forms authentication mode. In that how could I use windows authentication?
One more strange thing is am able to create datasource connecting to the same remote machine but not a repository?

4. The Db user has all privileges.

Thanks,
Yogi.

Hi,

Additional Info. When I use the MSDTC Conn. String exe. I get the following error.

Communication with the underlying transaction manager has failed.

InnerException:Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mailyogi,

Please find the attached tool testconnection.exe.txt to test the msdtc connection.  Remove the .txt at the end and run the tool and give the database connection that you are using and then click on test connection button. You should get connection success.  Then click on test connection -transaction button.  You should get connection success.  Then enter the same connection string in the second text box and click on test connection - msdtc.  You should get connection success.  If the third button fails, there should be some problem in the msdtc settings of your machine where skelta is installed.  Also try this by disabling the fire wall settings on the skelta server.  Let us know if you need any clarifications on this.

Hi Arvind,

After using that only I have updated the previous post. It fails for MSDTC conn. string. But my doubt is that same machine[where the skelta is installed] I was able to connect to some other DB machine X and the conn. string is working fine for it. But once when I try to connect to this DB machine Y I get this problem. If its MSDTC setting problem in the skelta machine How could it connects to the machine X and not to machine Y. lot confusing. pls help

Let us know your connection string details which you are providing while testing the tool, also if you could show us the screenshot of the MSTDC settings will help in troubleshoot this issue.

Mailyogi,

Also try by disabling the fire wall and let us know the results.
